Just a question for everybody, is the max. bore for a 383 block the same as that of a 400? They're both B Blocks ( 361", 383", 400") so just wondering the differences. Any help would be appreciated.

The stroke is the same between the two engines but the bore is not. And you will not be able to safely bore a 383 to a 400 size. The std bore of a 383 is 4.25 and for a 400 it is 4.34.

Thanks you for that info "Funship32"
Would it be safe to say: "Nothing over 0.60" ?

.60 over is what I was thinking also but wasn't sure of the differences in the blocks. Thanks for the thoughts.

Typically nothing over .040" on any Chrysler but .060" is not usually a problem. Might want to do a sonic check at .060"

.040 is recommended per service manual
