I'm looking at a 1967 383 2 barrel engine for sale. I want to put a 4 barrrel intake and carb on it. Will it need to have different heads to be worth doing? The guy wants $1000. for it. It has a 727 auto hooked to it. The engine is complete with pulleys, belts ac compressor, exhaust manifolds. The trans come with it. He says was running good when pulled out. He runs a salvage yard and pulled from wreck. About how much HP would the 2 barrel set up be verses the 4 barrel setup. Thanks, any info would be helpful.

you will not need to change the heads.any idea what heads are on it?you will get more power with a 4 brl carb and intake.$1000 is a bit steep(in my opinion)for a motor you know nothing about and have not seen run.
unless you have no 383 parts already.worth it for the parts alone with all the pulley's and brackets.

My research indicates 383 2 barrel motors of that vintage were 9 or 9.2:1 compression, versus 10:1 for the 4 barrel versions.

With todays gas, 9-ish sounds pretty good, though.

Sorry, you asked about the carb, not the comp.

ask him if he would guarantee that motor will run in writing, if not offer him half what he wants or walk away.

I picked up a 69' 383 2bbl complete for $100.
There is a 68' 383 rebuilt minus carb and a few bolt ons for $800 on Craigslist near me right now.
A grand is too much...like the others have said, you may want to keep looking.

My brother picked up a compete 67 383-2 with 727 and all the accessories for $250.

It was in a really clean 4 door Coronet SE trailer towing package car.

Turned out to have a pretty big ridge in the cylinders, but was complete and with trans.

He ended up getting a 73 motorhome 440 for $350, and built that.

There's a 71 383-2 and 727 down here for 650, and it's been on for two months.
