I now have my fathers 62 fury convertible. It came with a 318 however in 65 he decided to put a 1961 383 in it. As most of you know the 383 has a crank that bolts up directly to the torque converter with a short crankshaft. I am getting closer to getting the engine back together and i understand the 383 was not even available in the fury in 62. Is that true? I wanted to put a big block in it that was available in the 62 Fury. I was thinking of using a 413 which was available in 62. I see i can pick one up out of a old New Yorker or Imperial without the cross ram. Is this a misguided idea

The 343 Hp 383 was a special order option in the b-body line for 1962.

did the '61 and down engines use the cast iron torqueflite, and do they have the extended flange crank? simply, will a '61 and down crank work in an alum torqueflite?

Not unless you change the crank

Which is what i will do if i keep the 383. I have a 65 727 trans with the slip yoke i will use.

413.....in a 62?......classic!
