What are vintage 392 and 426 engine worth now?

I`ve seen 392 `s and 426 hemi` s go cheap to very expensive :eusa_think:

I payed $10K for my "May-1969" Hemi short block.
Original bore, low mileage from a famous MOPAR guru.
Bought it in 2003.

Prices are all over the map, depends on condition & what years, whether they were raced & blown up or just all original, or all completely stock sitting around rusting away for decades... I've seen them sell for $2500 for a running 392ci Hemi to the sky's the limit for a date coded 64-71 426ci Hemi, there're a few deals out there still, but most people know what they have now & know the people that need them, will pay ultimately big $$$$$$ for them, so it pretty much a sellers market... At one time I bought a garage full of 2 long block needing refreshing 430ci Alum. Donavan {392ci based} Hemi's & 3 Complete 426ci based 500, 526 & 540ci Blown Milodon's/Injector to pan, a bunch of clutch & Lenco stuff too, all of them needed refreshing too & 2 complete "Iron" factory stock 68 & 69 426ci Hemi's, all for $35,000... I though that was a stormen' deal of a life time, but I also bought the guys 36' enclosed trailer & his nearly new 220 Inch rear engine TA dragster, for another $25,000 from a guy in SoCal that was getting out of racing... I tried to make a package deal of $60,000 {for well over $100k worth of parts, trailer & car} & saved a bunch of money... I then sold off the dragster, for like $15k & the 2 Donavan's for $10k or what ever else I wasn't going to use for another $5k or so, to recoup 1/2 of my money... I kept & used the enclosed trailer & the Milodon's for years... I got home & advertised & sold both the Iron Hemi's for $8500 each {carbs to pan}, that was in the mid 80's & it was a really good deal at the time too, they sold almost instantly, especially for complete 426ci Hemi's... Good luck, I hope you have a fat wallet or big bank account, especially if your looking for a 426ci Hemi, they are getting allot harder to find... or you get really lucky, like I did, in the right place at the right time... sorry for the long winded answer/explanation

a crate Hemi is like $15k+ now

just sick ain't it!...would love to own one but Y when I can get my 440 to do all of the street duty a 426 can for 1/2 the money..what am I saying the 440's are gett'n up there too! better start buying up the 360 sb's or they will become coveted and special as well and see a 1,000% increase in aftermarket appeal and price ;) ...but as per your request, the 392's are still affordable in stock form and you can really beef them up with what some companies like Hot Heads has to offer...and remember everybody loves a 426 but the old guys did it with a 392 and a hydro stick :)

I probably have enough parts to build a 354 Hemi, may need an oil pan. Extra set of heads. and a lot of extra hemi parts. And a set of nice Chrysler FirePower Valve covers. I would make a package deal of $1200.....................................MO

Price wise it's pretty much night and day between 392 and 426. I paid $12.5K for a complete 66 426 (no carbs) that seems to run well. Only problem is I have no idea what's in it. Hard seats? Cracks in heads welded up? Who knows. All I know is there is no water in the oil and vice versa and it blows 215 PSI.
