Hey guy's I have a Cast steal 4 gear trans and I'm looking for some info on it.The numbers I have found are pp8333051 it is a 23 spline not an 18 spline so it's for a small block..... I'm told it's from a AAR or TA...... I can only read 3 other numbers 734 (but it looks like it should have more to it) the 734 is the end of the number and the tail stock has 2 mounting locations so B and or E body.Where can I find a date code?? or how can I find out what car it's off of? Thank's

I'm pretty sure, but not 100% sure, that the T/A AAR trannys had their own gear ratio. If that's true then remove the cover and count teeth. 23 splines were used in everything except the 440 and HEMI. If it's newer than 1967 it should have the last part of the cars VIN stamped on the pad. For example 9G123456.

Tip on counting teeth. Driven gear tooth count divided by drive gear tooth count. The input shaft gear needs to be in the equation also. Multiply the result of the input gear set and the speed gear set you are working on to get the ratio found in the book.

Yes. T/A's and AAR's had a slightly different ratio. Also, Meep is correct in that everything except 440's and Hemis has a 23 spline trans.

...The numbers I have found are pp8333051 ...Where can I find a date code??...

That's it. The "3051" refers to the 10,000 day calender used in dating (Hemi engines, manual and automatic transmissions) . See http://www.mmcdetroit.com/Understanding_Date_Codes/, ref E3. As an example "2995" = Oct 9, 1969. Just add the 56 day difference (3,051 - 2995) to get Dec 4, 1969 as the build date.
