Inland shifters are cool looking however they have some issues, especially if they have been shifted hard. It is not uncommon to see a four speed console car that was equipped with an Inland shifter to have witness marks on the edge of the console from the shifter.
The slick thing to do if you want to keep it looking stock is get a Hurst shifter modified to accept the inland handle from Brewers. The last inland shifter I used would sometimes put the trans in 3rd and reverse at the same time (If I am remembering correctly). Scary!
Hello Rich, don't know if you've seen it but I just posted a For Sale of an inland shifter mechanism and lower boot that was only used a little less than 6 months. Brother-in-law bought a brand new 68 RoadRunner and put in a Hurst at about 6 months when they became available as standard equipment at mid-year. It looks like it's in perfect shape. If you're interested, let me know and I might be able to find the handle and linkage rods. A friend of mine has a few so I can check what he has. I put an Inland into my Charger instead of the Hurst shifter. Mine being an early '68 I wanted to keep it looking stock ,plus everybody has the "common Hurst shifter". I have not had any problems. However, Jeremiah is right , Brewers has the adapter for the Inland handle to run on a Hurst shifter, the only problem is the reverse does not work correctly like it should on the Inland. You cannot use the t-pull to put her into reverse. I said heck with that.....
