Good day all! I am looking to upgrade the brake system on my 70 Dodge Charger 500. Currently has drums in the rear and want to upgrade to rear disc and am looking at 4 wheel disc conversion kits to include booster / master cylinder. Do any of you have any suggestions on a hassle free bolt on kit or know of one brand being more reliable than the other out of the box? I am not taking this thing to the strip…... The configuration of the car currently is:

70 Charger 500
440 engine (originally 318)
8 3/4 rear end
235 70 15 Front
275 60 15 Rear
Currently disc fronts and drums in the rear.

There are a lot of sharp peeps on here so please chime in and your advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Are you willing to purchase larger diameter wheels and tires to accommodate larger discs? What is your goal to upsize the brakes?
Mike

Hey Mike, not looking to upgrade the diameter of the wheels. My goal is to clean up the brake system aesthetically and of course a nice stopping feel if that makes sense.

If your car is originally power front disc/rear drum and those are your goals, then maybe just put ceramic pads & shoes on and that’s all.

Hey Purplebeeper…..That is the original configuration of the car and what it currently has. Any cons of converting to rear disc?

I would contact either Dr Diff or Peter Bergman @ Bergman Auto Craft.

If you really want to stop, ask Peter about Hydroboost, Stops on a dime and gives you $3.50 back..

Derwud,
Thanks for the info. I will reach out to them and get quotes! I appreciate the info

I have Strange Engineering 4 wheel disc brakes with a Wilwood master still using 15" wheel on my street/strip Challenger.

Nice! What brand or brands did you use?
I bought the cheap stuff from another site, Dr Diff and Peter Bergman helped me sort it out.. I saved nothing, it cost me more to not buy from them.. Both of them can build you kits that work with your performance goals and budget..

Money and time for a result that probably won't do you any benefit in normal driving conditions.
This is true in most cases.

Members with 4 wheel disc systems.....Can you get the tires to skid?

The front disc/rear drum with a factory dual diaphragm booster is a system that is hard to beat. I went with rear discs simply for appearance. I've driven some A body cars with manual brakes, front disc and rear drum and they stop as well as any new car I've driven.
I tried hydroboost but couldn't get the unit to work. I went through a lot of combinations before finally getting the brakes to work the way that I wanted.
I'm all for trying new things but sometimes the factory did have it figured out.
