I'm doing up a 400 with a stock stroke and using a 383 steel crank, 383 rods and KB240 pistons. Will be for both cruising both short and longer runs as well as mild bracket racing so a bit of everything. It would turn no more than 6K because it has a mild 222 Hyd cam. What bearing are y'all using or would recommend for this type of build? Seen Sealed power 4094M and 876P both full groove King has 180 groove. but Bi metal
TIA and Happy holidays.

I wouldn't use a full groove bearing, only 3/4 groove at most. That's what are in my race motor built by a very knowledgeable builder with over 60 years in business. ruffcut

Who makes 3/4 groove?

Half or 3/4 groove, not full groove. You also want Tri metal, not bi-metal.

On a different note, why not use a 440 crank and rods, piston with a lower compression height to get the weight down for 451 cu? seeing as is sounds like you’re doing it from scratch here anyway And it’s at the point where it makes sense now. That 222 cam is maybe kinda small in a stockish 400, be hard to propel a big B body into the 12’s that you mention You’d like to achieve? Unless I don’t know some of the secret sauce about the build that’s gonna get you rolling?

Good point, I have a 451 in it now and runs 11:60 @ 119mph but pulling that engine for another car so was doing a milder 400 for mostly cruising. I did have a 440 with KB184, Iron heads in it years ago that was completely factory looking with manifolds, iron intake TQ carb and that one ran 12:68's to 12:75 so I figured 400 might be able to do it At least ill try. LOL, Actually I do have a set of Ross Pistons sitting on the shelf in my garage that are 1.307 CH and would make a wonderful pump gas 470. Seen those engines and I think it's a fantastic balance for a street car. Thanks
