Is a 413 a good motor to build for HP or should I stay with a good 440? I see alot of the 413's forsale do they have a steel crank?

413 might be tough to get pistons for. I think they can be bored to 426 size, pistons might be a little easier to get.

Yes, they have steel cranks

If it were mine, I'd stay with the 440. Cubic horsepower and good piston selection.

Finding 426 wedge pistons isn't much easier.

Nothing wrong with a 413 otherwise. Another thought is if you found a cast crank 440 engine you can use the steel 413 crank and accompanying balancer.

There are cast flat top 413 pistons on ebay for $400.00 and $417.00. The ones for 417 are available in numerous sizes starting at stock and .020 over.

Al K has you covered, check out egge machine they have all the hard to find motor parts...The 413 wedge was a great motor...No cast parts in it...They look all so cool with duel quads!!!!

Just checked with EGGE. The piston L2095-8 is a cast piston, no forged for the 413. Price was about $420.00 Compression distance is 2.0156.

Depending on what your final plan is,you might be better off with a 440 block.
