I'm planning on building a 426. Ive done some research on heads for it and all ive found is Stage V and Indy. I can't find the price for Indy heads. But I know stage v is very expensive near the 5,000 range. Any other heads out there worth it that wont break the bank?

my set up will be keith black pistons, street and strip cam, stage v intake, dual ez efi. Most parts off of arruzza performance.

Thanks.

Indy bare heads $2,305
Assembled heads, 2.25/1.94 valves, retainers locks and springs to .650 roller cam, $2,830
Cylinderhead kit, heads, studs, bolts, spark plug tubes, rocker arms shafts, valley plate, intake manifold, gaskets, valve covers, $6,675

Stay with Stage V heads if your going to play Hemi. Don't waste your time with anything else. The Stage V quality is 2x better than Indy and 3x better than Mopar castings. You will have no issues with Stage V. Rocker Geometry is very important with Hi Lift cams. Also use the best Timing chain system like the Billet unit from Australia, or Cloyes US made. lso use the stamped steel valve covers if your going to have any lift. If tyou plan on byuilding a street motor then use Oil thru push rods and get a good set of crane Roller Lifters.

I have a set of MoPar aluminum heads I plan on using for my 66 Belvedere. They look like copies of the stock head, which is fine with me. I'm pretty sure they are all cast by Edelbrock but have not confirmed this.

How much more hp and torque will the stage v heads add. I plan on using a comp cams solid flat tappet for Street and strip.

If I were to do this all over again, I would go with the Mother Mopar heads.
I have the Hansen Stage V heads and manifold.

Why would I NOT go with the STAGE V heads & Manifold?

1. The available dual inlet fuel line from the fuel pump to the carbs is designed for the Mopar manifold which places the carbs just a little closer than the Hansen manifold. You have to slightly bend the aft tube to align properly w/ the aft carb on the Hansen Stage V.
2. The "Original style" Air Cleaner assembly WILL NOT FIT on a Hansen manifold set-up. The Air Cleaner assembley in my pic is from Tim Banning at For Hemis Only. IT is the ONLY option, thanks Tim and FHO for ALL your help and the wonderful design and quality products!
3. I added Air Conditioning (AC) on my 70 Hemi. NOTE: Mother Mopars heads have a manufactured threaded "BOSS" on the drivers side head. It allows the AC bracket to mount to the drivers side head. THE HANSEN STAGE V head does not have this threaded BOSS. (Randy Bouchillion's BPE Products inc...BTW; All your help on this bracket and making it work for the Stage V heads! Thanks BPE for all your great help)
4. The throttle linkage and cable set-up has to be modified from the original MOPAR assembly because: you geussed it, the Stage V manifold IS different.

Now, yes...I have resolved ALL issues but, if i were to do it again, I would have gone with the MOPAR heads, Aluminum of course...

So, ask yourself: "Why not go with MOPAR OR INDY?"
Why do you want STAGE V?
Both Mopar and Indy are simmilar, where as Hansen Stage V is unique in these aspects.

Just my opinion BUT, again, the difference to me is significant.
(I did not know these things before but I know them know)

I HOPE this helps you...

Good luck and keep us posted.

I suppose it depends whether you are building an 8000 RPM screamer of a huge CI thumper. Big ports move more air and unless you are running in the optimum flow numbers what good are they? The stock hemi heads are generous enough for the street and some track use.

Meep-Meep has an excellent point.

Essentially, what do you want to do with your HEMI?
I was influenced by numerous 'Buds" when I first started putting the Hemi together.
I was "EXCITED" to get the Hansen Stage V heads/manifold setup.

But, as Meeps points out: Are you building an 8,000RPM screamer or do you want to "LIVE" the Hemi experience?

For me, it is now the later of the two philosophical styles.
1. The 70 Bee is too rare for me to wrap around a tree
2. No matter 'how fast" I make it, something will always be faster.
3. My 70 Hemi short block is much to valuable to "spin a rod bearing" OR "throw a ROD thru the block"
I just want to ride in a vintage 60s era Mopar muscle car.
My car is a weekend cruiser. Something I can drive and have fun with.

That is what I did, I got the heads complete for 3,800 and had to change the spring from comp 947's to 959's because I am using a smaller cam, and I also am running the crane 99550-16 lifters in a 572 world block hemi. Its almost the same money for a 426 as a 572, so bigger is better. Also get your rocker ratio's checked prior to ordering a cam if you are using stock rockers, my ratios ranged from 1.26-1.40, bullet cams will custom grind one to get the right lift based on what your rockers actually are. I am also using a 112 lsa on the cam to get more vacuum, I wanted to do the firing order4:7/3:2 swap but did not find someone with a core they could grind in the profiles I was looking at to improve idle. I have Mopar Aluminum castings and Indy cast heads. The stage V head castings are better made. With hemi's you can't fool around. The Mopar aluminum have problems with valves sinking. The Stage 5 Heads that repop the factory boses are the ones to use. Their rockers are solid.
