hey guys,

A friend of mine got me a 426 street wedge engine; it needs the usual bore/honejob;
i have got info on how to get pistons for this engine, but they are more expensive than 440 pistons ( in comparison )
Is it possible to have the 426 bored to 440 specs and stuff in 440-pistons or should i just go for ( the more expensive ) 426 aftermarket pistons.

thanks,
Marcel

why not get a 30over 383 10:to1 I'm pretty sure there the same bore.I think the 440 will be to much but a sonic test will show that.....Artie

It can be done,but will leave no room for another oversize and the engine will be prone to run "hot".The best thing is to oversize enough to clean up the bore to the next size ring set available,then get pistons to match.

Sonic test it and see how thick the bore walls are and go from there. I've seen several engines that are .060 over and ran fine and with thick cylinders, another .010 shouldn't be a problem but you need to test it first....

.070 over, tread lightly. the cost of having to sleeve the block after a crack will be more than getting the right piston the first time.

That's why you sonic test first......

i've done it before. no block i've tested would go .070. but, people do have differing opinions on minimal wall thickness and usage can come into play. i wonder how many testers test 45 degrees to the thrust axis?

thanks guys for all the info;
i will just go for the best solution and just order the right pistons;
it will be a streetcar and i don't want to run the risk that it will run hot or things like that.
So, i will have the cilinders measured and take the first oversize.
