Can someone please recommend a good distributer to fit a 440 6 pack in a 70 Coronet R/T? I have an MSD 6al box but their dist is too long. The problem is it has to fit under the air cleaner.
The one I have is in bad shape. I just don't know what brand to go with. Not looking for anything fancy, I just don't want to buy a piece of crap either.
I just bought a Mallory Unilite w/vacum advance for my 70 super bee 440 6pk. Plug and play and it works just fine. At $345 its a little pricey but then again, what isn't? Good luck!
I have a Mallory distributor in my car now and have also run the MSD Pro Billet. Comparing the MSD and Mallory: They both do the job they're intended to do. If you want to alter the advance curve, the MSD is much easier to deal with as the weights, springs and stops are all accessible under the GM type rotor. With the Mallory you have to drive out the roll pin, remove the shaft/reluctor and the plate that mounts the pick-up to access the advance mechanism, which is a hassle if you need to try several combinations. The Mallory is a bit smaller in diameter also. Good luck...
Thanks for the replies. Didn't want to spend $345 since I have the MSD box already. I bought a MP copy from Mancini that was a piece of junk. The reluctor was crooked and a loose piece fell out of the box when I opened it. Maybe just bad luck, but I returned it for a Firecore piece that seems much nicer. Havent started it yet. Probly in few minutes.
