What would be a reasonable price to pay for an unused 440 block. It is a 1978, motorhome block. I am not sure if I should stroke it or just build it up as a 440 with a nice cam and aluminum heads. It is just a plain block with no internals. It looks new with no rust. I do have a cross ram, MSD ignition, and TTI headers to put on the engine. Also my transmission is from Dynamic converters with a 3400 stall.

Unused? Is it fresh out of a machine shop?

So... we talking just block and caps? std bore? machine shop fresh?

Price is going to be way diff if this is something you're going to have to take to the shop, get cam bearings and a hone on vs here it is, slap your parts in it

Most 440 blocks are $300-$500 but need to be machined. If that thing needs to be machined it is of no more value than that, regardless of how clean it is. Ive seen freshly machined blocks in the $1200 range but unless you can trust the seller, you would have to have a machinist look it over, at least i would.

Just block and caps. unused. Been stored in a crate for 20+ years. I am definitely going to have a machinist look it over, and have it hot tanked. I do not know the seller. He is asking $700.00 which I believe is a bit high. Still not sure if I should stroke? it is going in a mainly street car for cruises and shows. The block appears like new in the pictures, I will look at it in person this weekend.

I bought a 68 std. bore block and caps a year ago for 200, and he quaranteed it to be useable. The block i had when magnifluxed, had hairline cracks on the 3 center mains at the bolt holes. Definatly get it checked.

I am going to pass on this block. Thanks for all the assistance.

If you want a big block and build it fron scratch, Get a 400 and stroke it. Better support around the webbing. My opinion!
