So I'm looking for some inspiration as I'm about to start building my engine while the body is at the shop finishing up the body work. Just curious as to what some of you guys are running on the street. HP/TQ numbers, and mpg. Just wanting to know what everyone is running out of 440s these days. Haven't decided on all the specs on mine yet but it's going into my 73 charger project, 727, 3.50 Gears in a Ford 9".

Do you want to race it at the drag strip and run 10 second times? Or just run it on the street and shut down 427 Camaros? Check out the 12 second combos on this Forum for some good builds. I would think 450 horse would be plenty of power for a hot street engine.

It's going to be driven a lot. Probably daily. So it needs to be very street-able and fair mpg I'm not too hopeful on that though

Gas is cheap these days! Go for the gusto.

Here are some 550-650+...

It might see the strip every now and then but mostly just street driven I want enough to shut down the newer camaros and mustangs. Once I get the money I might convert to fuel injection and build it a little more serious so I can go after vettes

If the goal is a strong street cruiser, and you noted the economy, I would advise you to ignore horsepower numbers. Dyno numbers have as much BS in them as the cruise nighter statements. You want torque. Low rpm twist. I would stay simple, and you can expect mileage in the mid teens, and be able to run pump fuel, and run pretty close to the new performance cars. If you really want to beat them, it will take more than a mild 440. At that point I'd advise you biting the bullet and stroking the 440. A mild 505" will certainly have the steam to beat them with pump fuel and mild gearing and convertor.
