Hey guys and gals, maybe you guys can help me. If my 68 GTX was built in May of 68 what would the earliest date code be on the 440 eng. block? is NOV OR DEC of 67 too early to be date correct? Thanks in advance

Sounds a tad early. My Lynch Rd '69 Bee's scheduled build date was Feb 25th. My engine was built/stamped Feb 28th and my exhaust manifolds were cast on the 21st!

Maybe I am reading this wrong but it seems that your block and manifolds were cast after the car was built....Making them not the original parts?
I thought that the block should usually be about 2 months older than the build date of the car at the very least.
I had a '71 Chrysler 300 that had the original engine, date 11-11-69. That seems like a L O N G gap though.

All original. Scheduled date and actual build date or two different animals. Working the "just behind" system in those days. Block casting date I'm sure is earlier, but the manifolds were cast 2 days after the SPD.
As for the OP's post, 6/7 months seems like a lot of engines built in advance..

again, casting or assembly? A casing date that far in advance isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
the assembly date stamped on the engine should be much closer to the SPD...say a week or two.

Lots of variables at play here. The block casting date could be that far in advance of the car build date(scheduled or actual) if the block had gone back for re-machining, bores, lifter bores, etc.
