I have a 70 coronet r/t and would like some help decoding the info stamped on the pad on the top left side of the block. Thanks in advance for any help. As stamped:
F440
o
8 4 hp2
F440
o
8 4 hp2
The 8 4 stamping indicates this engine was assembled on August 4th, 1969. So you must have a very early 70 model year Coronet. Probably has a build date of late August 69 or early September I'm guessing.
I agree with Chuck, the F440 designates a 70 model year 440 engine and the HP2 is also as Chuck said, Hi Performance version of the 440 and built on the 2nd shift.
The other stamping, either a zero or an "o", is not familiar to me and means nothing to me.
You should also have a partial VIN stamping on the lower passenger side of the block, just above the oil pan rail. It should be about 8 digits long starting with 0 (for 1970) then a letter (A,B,G,orE) for assembly plant, then the last 6 digits should match your cars VIN number. (This is assuming you have the original engine for the car.)
