Hey guys - just for my own information, does anyone know what harmonic damper I have on my 440? I’m also curious why it has 2 timing marks. The main ring is 7/8” thick.

It’s obviously been around a while judging by the layers of paint…car was listed with a “steel” crank when purchased but that’s all I know. I have never had the oil pan off to check.

Thx!

I’ve got a “reasonable” guess. Years ago, I was building a 440 out of various salvage yard motors and put it into a ‘77 Cordoba (400 4 bbl car). I vaguely recall having to “ear time” it because the harmonic balancer timing mark didn’t line up with the timing tab, or I couldn’t see it (radiator hose in wrong side that blocked the marks or something?). As pnora said, somebody probably added the 2nd mark so they could time the engine in a situation like I had (guess)

As Pnora mentioned someone probably filed the second groove... And my guess is it's at 36 degrees BTDC

If it measures 2 3/8" between marks which it looks close to that would confirm my guess

It's a standard steel crank damper with a little chunk broken out of the inner ring..
