was wondering if you can run a 426 wedge head on a 440 block. saw the ports are bigger on the 426 heads and like to run a big port like that. if you can do you have to change the intake and any other things. thanks for any help.

are you talking max wedge or hemi? Hemi is a no. Max wedge is a yes to my knowledge.

If they are 426 max wedge heads then yes you need a new intake manifold. Tons of manifolds to choose from either Mopar, Indy or edelbrock all carry them.

When you say "426 wedge heads" this automatically means you are looking to bolt on a set of early closed chamber 516 heads, which are pretty much like the later big block stuff. If you are referring to the wedge heads with the taller ports, tulip intake valves and 1.88" exhaust valves then that is a 413 or 426 Max Wedge head. Max wedge is short for maximum performance wedge head engine. Yes, I'm being picky, but it's an important detail in the MoPar world.

And yes, you can bolt the Max Wedge heads on a 440 but you should double check the exhaust valve to bore clearance. On the 4.25" bore engines the factory cut a notch in the bore for valve clearance. It will probably be fine on the 4.32" bore but check it anyway.

If you can post the casting number from the top of the intake runner on the cyl head, then we can tell you which intake manifold type you will need. The last 3 numbers may be 518 or 516. Also the max wedge heads (which are fairly rare) will have no heat cross over passage.
