I just started ti disassemble a 75 440 that I plan to rebuild and found that it had a '452 head on the right side and a '975 on the left. Do you think it came from the factory that way or had work done on it? Valves all look good and the cylinders show almost no wear so i don't think it has many miles on it.

Someone else did it. Possibly to replace a bad (cracked) head.

That's actually pretty common for someone to just grab another head to fix something. And it's kinda hard to tell how many miles are on it judging by wear. I've see engines with 100k miles on them and they looked excellent inside. Years ago, I pulled 318 apart that came out of a 85 pickup that had 120k miles and you could still see the cross hatch in the cylinders and this thing belonged to a buddy's son and he wasn't driving it very easy either. Now if you over heat them and generally don't do much maintenance, yeah, they will wear faster.
