Was at the track today, and the car ran great. Only issue was that the 440 seems to be leaking at the front of the pan and timing chain cover (valve cover gaskets to as usual). Car sat for 2 years, maybe just dry rotted?

What is the best gaskets out there to seal it off good for a 440?

Good luck.. We torn ours down three or four times trying to get it to stop leaking. We literally tried everything, and were at the point of placing a one piece gasket (like factory) around the oil pan. We run one less quart of oil, and it seems to have stopped the noticeable leaking for the past six months.

I fought leaks on mine (valve covers & oil pan) for some time. Tried every type of gasket known to man to no avail. Then I realized that my evacuation tube check valves were shot and I had too much crank case pressure. Only thing that leaks these days is the damn front seal on my 727....

Permatex leak repair works excellent. I had a rear seal carrier leak on my Charger and a pan leak on my duallie. Fixed them both with the stuff. Clean good with brake clean and spray a few coats on, allowing it to tack up. It has capillary action.

I got the heads up on this stuff from a Volvo shop. They swear by it. I'm not normally a "snake oil in a can" guy, but this is amazing.

Even if you're just buying some time on a leak you'll fix later...which you probably won't ever get to.

The BB Chrysler is a very simple pan to seal. One big flat surface. Though you can seal it with RTV ,good luck if you have to remove it. I use a small (1/8") bead of RTV at the timing cover and main seal retainer junctions. Glue the gasket with a thin 1/8" bead of 3M weatherstrip adhesive to the block. RTV 3/16" bead between the gasket and pan. Do nut over tighten, a nut driver is plenty. Running a windage tray? Add a bead of RTV so you end up with RTV on both sides of the tray. I prefer Superformance gaskets. My engines don't leak a drop.
