It's actually not that tough. You just knock loose or use a puller and loosen the center link from the idler arm & pitman arm. This will let the center link drop down about 6" and not affect your alignments (tie rod ends aren't touched). Remove the bolts. Yes, the front few bolts are "slightly" tough to get at, but a socket on 3/8" breaker bar fits right in there. Pull the pan down. You likely have a "windage tray" sandwiched between TWO oil pan gaskets. The windage tray will "almost" drop down, but not quite....so you rotate the oil pickup tube counterclockwise about 1/4 turn and the windage tray drops down piece-of-cake and you get the upper oil pan gasket off at the same time. Reverse order to install. Maybe 3 hr. job including 1 hr. to clean off all the oil you get on yourself. Not that bad of a job.Can I change the oil pan gasket on a 440 in a 68 Charger without lifting the engine? Mine's leaking.
