When the oil comes thru the pick up tube to the filter, does it flow to the outside of the filter, then into the oil pump, then into the internal passages in the block? Or does it go thru the pump and then the filter? So when I disassemble an oil filter, I would look at the outside of it for any debris coming out of the oil pan? Just wondering where the filter gets oil first, so I can take it apart and check for metal or other debris.

Yep it gets sucked up from the pan into the pump out through the filter into the engine

So the oil hits the pump first, then OUTSIDE portion of filter, thru the filter, then into the engine thru the center passage of the filter, right?

found a chart

All the mopar filters go "in" through the outer holes, and oil flows "out" from the center. When you cut the filter can off, the debris is on the outside of the element.
