My Coronet project is slowly coming along and running fine, but the more I look at that 273, the more I want it out. How much should I expect to dish out for a 440 to start building up?
i built one back stock besides 30 over bore,,machine shop work on block and heads and all new parts i had about 1100.00,,,,,built one up to around 400 hp, cost me around 2500.00 for machine shop work and on heads and new parts
If you are asking how much you should expect to pay for a rebuildable engine, it depends on what is available in your part of the country. Some guys seem to think they grow on trees.
I know several years ago the local junkyards here in AZ. were getting $1.00 per cube for rebuildable engines.
If you are looking for a specific year, date code, etc. for a restoration engine for a 66-71car then you can expect to pay MORE and will likely have to pay shipping as you are at the mercy of where you might find what you need.
In the last month (July-August 2010) I've seen "can hear run" 440 with trans for anywhere from about $500 to $1500. Seen 76-77 motor homes for $800. Seen supposedly rebuidables for $300-$400.
