My neighbor is working on a 71 roadrunner, factory 440 4 speed he says, it has the skinny pedals, but somebody long ago swapped in a 727. I don't know if its the original 440, but I think it has a carter afb on it. It's been sitting so long the engine is stuck, so he is going to put a good running small block in it. Now my question is how much is a 71 440 that ran when parked but is stuck now worth? I know it may be wrong to swap a big block out for a small block, but its not my job to tell other people how to build a car, and I may wind up with the leftovers.

Well if it is complete carb to pan around my neck of the woods that would be a 500$$ motor ! That
's if you know a guy who knows a guy lol! A 71' will have a forged crank so it would be a good builder! Good luck :headbang:

Here in Tulsa 500 or maybe even a little less since it is stuck. I would be willing to bet some oil soaking in the cylinders, and a breakerbar the next morning would free it up.

Depends on how bad it is inside, may be usable, may not be. If its a Road Runner its not a factory 440 car unless it was a 440 6 pack car. Does it come with the correct HP manifolds?

I'd say any good 440 is a good builder. Personally I'd rather pay a little more knowing that what is there is workable than take a gamble and end up with badly rust pitted cylinders. Pull the heads and pan to find out why it's stuck and go from there.

I'll try to get some pictures one evening soon. The car is sitting on flat tires, once it's up on stands I'll look at the balancer, I think the ac comp is blocking the i d pad on the block, it was getting dark when I looked at it last time.

I paid $400 for a 71' 440 carb to pan and a 727 torqueflite two years ago. Recently it looks like $500-$750 seems to be the going price.
