440 RB pick up tube question

That’s a big pan, I would think a 3/8 pickup would be fine?
 
The question is more around what oiling system you need for what you want the engine to do. That pan is a drag racing pan. It will be the lowest part of the car if street is in the cards. Just an FYI there. Talk more about the build and the pickup question can be decided.
 
3/8" is stock 440. 1/2" is Hemi size. Maybe a racer will tell if you can enlarge the 440 block to 1/2 for more oil?
 
The car will definitely see street use as well as strip use. Not sure about clearance issues. Its basically a .40 or .60 over build ( depending on how the block cleans up) with doug d452 headers, e street edelbrock heads, victor intake and undecided about the cam yet.
 
...and the build will be fine with the factory size 3/8 pickup.
 
Would a 6 quart pan seem more suitable for street/strip used?
I used a milodon 7qt pan and pick up for my street strip build. An 8qt will hang pretty low.

Use a Hemi/six pack style pan. You really don't want a drag racing pan on a street car. Plus and more importantly you don't need it.
