My 72 RR wont restart at operating temp.- 180-200 range. Tried timing from 0 to 15 btdc. Wiring, wires and plugs battery, 3different starters all electrical and cooling is new.Cranks great when cold and idles well. when I shut it off and try to restart it it drags and dies. If I wait 10 or 15 minutes it will fire right up, M.P. elect. ign. orange box. I am pulling what's left of my hair, what am I missing? Help! Rick R

BB characteristic. Hot restarts. Boiling lousy fuel etc even if the motor is not overheating. I went the one inch spacer etc route and am very careful with hot restart techniques. Spin it then just bump the throttle. Play around with it to find your recipe.

Hmm. Fried Ignition module?

Had that problem With the Eddy carb but my car would spin over really fast and I would have to go about half throttle and it would start, with the Holley carb starts right up,if starter spins slow like a dead battery may be timing advanced a little to far.

the last time I had that happen , it was because the heat from my left side header was cooking the starter. add a not so hot charging system and timing out of wack , the engine would barely turn over.

My ceramic (expensive) TTI's reduce underhood temps by 100 degrees. Contribute to better hot re-starts. Wrapped and re located fuel lines too.

Motor has 0 miles only broke in cam. was told it needs driven to break-in motor, sound right?

Might be off the wall, but the way your describing things, really sounds electrical.

Probably in your ignition system. Maybe even the coil. Again, this is a long shot, and real hard to find. Any of your ignition wiring could have a break in it. When the wiring (including inside the coil) is cool, the break is contacting, and works. When the wire warms up, it expands, opening the break, and kills that electrical flow.

If you have a spare coil, try it, to see what happens. Sure wouldn't hurt.

After it's warmed up shut it off and pull the wires off the ballast resister. If it still won't turn over it's the most likely the starter.

Miller and Rick62, I will try both options later, thanks

didn't mean to be an a$$, I forgot to say no headers, sorry

Slow cranking & you have changed starters on break in motor...Have you put a wrench on crank & see how freely it spins?(Hot to cold) You Need to do a process of elimination...
If starter will not spin over when hot you need to do a voltage drop on starter circuit. Also if your starter cranks slowly after the engine has been running only 15 minutes, try.......
you have a bad ground connection, somewhere between the negative battery cable & the starter.

Nice video to start your check list to do a process of elimination....

Don't know if this is the root cause of the issue, but I've heard nothing but bad things about the Orange Box. Haven't used one myself, so I'm not speaking from experience, but seems that most people on FABO recommend getting rid of that box even if it's not the problem. Just my 1 cents (the government took the other half)
