I am currently building a stock stroke 440 with 13:1 diamond dome pistons, H beam rods, std port eddy victor heads, crane cam 268/278 @50 solid roller, Harlem sharp off set 1.6 rockers, smith bros push rods, victor intake, and 850 demon. Does anyone run victor heads and what horsepower and torque numbers can be expected out of this bracket race 440 combo. I will have it on the dyno when its done and will post the results. Just curious on the reliability and power I can expect from the std port victor heads and stock stroke 440.

Make sure the relief on the pistons are correct for the angle plug..
I can't begin to predict what your HP numbers or TQ values will be... But I have a similar build, only using the MP solid 590 camshaft and 1.6:1 rockers.....
I also have around 13:1 compression with domed pistons and Victor style heads / Victor intake, and 850 Holley 4150 DP carb... The engine could use more carb,, I would go 1050cfm with a 4500 to 4150 adapter if I were you!
I have 2" primary to 3.5" collector headers.... I put a stud girdle on the mains in my build, along with Scatt H-Beam rods.... I also used a standard stroke forged crank like your build...

Ya Im going to run 2 inch primary and 3.5 collector. I figured it will need more carb but we will see what it makes on the dyno. Nice car, what kind of numbers at the track?

Only one timed pass... 10.43 with the old converter, and poor traction. Mines a street car, that will see the strip once or twice a year........
I just replaced the converter this winter with an 8" unit..... I expect it to really wake things up on launch, and I added my own (CalTrac) setup as well..... Hopefully it hooks and carries the front end a couple inches off the ground for a little ways....

Ya with a good converter and dbl adjustable shocks you shouldn't have an issue as long as traction is good. That's a good ET for big ole b-body. I'm hoping to hit the low tens as well with mine this year.

I just remembered that I did replace the front shocks with 3 way adjustables last fall too... That will help!

This is the car in the above video..

IQ52 a member here has got great results out of the Edelbrock Victor heads, especially ported correctly, with the proper tune & matching components should make 600+ hp pretty easily, he was getting 800+ IIRC, don't remember his combo, read so many numbers start to blur...LOL... Good luck on your build appleby66, keep us updated... Maybe star a post/thread over in the Racers Hang Out forum here too, get more exposure...

I don't know for sure but I have seen several cases where 10 sec 1/4 mile passes in B bodies were obtained even with ported iron heads. I think you will need about 700 HP to get to the 10's in a 4000 lb car (with traction of course!). Less HP required if you seriously lighten it. Rule of thumb: 100 lbs = .1 sec = 10 HP.

Had the engine on the dyno and made some really good numbers. Made 688 hp@6500rpm and didn't go below 680hp from 6200-7000rpm. Made 620 Ftlbs@5200rpm and didn't go below 600ftlbs from 4600-5800 rpm. Should be enough to get the car moving. Not bad for 446CI.

Let's hear it for another NON stroker build!!!
Good job man! Now put a 1050 on it and see a few more HP

I'm not a big fan of strocker engines either.....nice numbers. In the early 80's my 68 road runner went 10.60's @ 126 with 906 heads (ported of course) on top of a 11.5 .030 over 440. Car was a little over 3300 with me in it.

Yes I here ya... The previous build was the same cam and lift with ported 906 12.2:1 comp and the fastest it went was 10.74@127. Good heads but unfortunately they were cracked. So the victors payed off and I should be in the low tens. Less weight as well. Dyno sheet for new combo below
