I have a GTX hood over a 440 with a 850 cfm Holly that is not getting fresh cool air. The 26" radiator takes up almost all the space on the grill opening. I do not want to put a scoop, i.e. hemi scoop, on the hood. I do not have much clearance between the underside of the hood and the breather. How can I get more outside air to the carb? Has anyone put louvers on the hood like I have seen on the '69 Dodge Cornet?? However, the ones I saw seemed to not be functional as the hood liner covered up the louver area. This may be similar to the GTX hood that has false "scoops" on that hood. If I opened up those scoops, I still could not get air into the engine compartment, I don't think.

had a 493 stroker under the hood of a GTX...currently a 472 hemi under a 67 R/T hood....no scoops...26 inch rad.....950 cfm carbs on both...no issues...run strong...non paper air filter is maybe the only difference as it gets much better air flow than a paper filter...K & N type

Why do you believe there is an "air issue"...symptoms?

Good question. I have always strived to get cool outside air coming in under the premise that the denser air emulsifies better. That engine compartment gets extremely hot and I just felt that the engine would run even better than it is now if it had outside air. I'm not sold on the idea because I can't drive it any faster than what I am. So you would go with the K&N filters and not worry about the hot intake. I appreciate your advise. Means a lot coming from a big block guy with like mopars. Terzmo, with you look at my thread about power steering pumps on the big blocks which have more rpms due to a 3.73 rear end? I am trying to find out if I have the wrong pump (TRW) or what I should get, or can i adjust the metering pin and eliminate my "darting". Thanks
