How do I tell if I have a posi rear. 1969 489 case with 3.23 gears.
I forgot to turn the axles before I took it apart, so I am at this point.
Any way to tell? 489 rear 2.JPG489 rear1.JPG

Nope, you don't have posi, you have a sure grip. :) It's the cone type unit, which is common to 489 rears.

i can tell you with 100% certainty , you don't have a posi if that is a Chrysler gear set

that would be a sure grip

Hahahaha! Get him guys! He said posi!!!!!!

I was going to do the same but you beat me to it.

Lol.... Poor fella used an off brand terminology.....
Both wheels should spin when you stomp the go pedal....
Happy Moparing, and good luck with your "Sure-Grip" unit...

Posi is for girls, how many black marks do you leave on the pavement when you launch? :3gears:

I knew you guys where gonna beat him up.

yes both wheels/tires will sometimes spin... it has a limited slip/AKA Chrysler/Mopar nomenclature "Sure Grip" type differential in your 489 8-3/4" carrier
