Ok so after much decision making and grumbling I must forgo my plans for a 5.7L hemi swap, it's just not in the budget for now. I have decided to go with a 5.9L instead, most likely from an 01-03 durango or ram 1500. I have a carburated 360 in it now from the '70's. The car is a '72 charger with a 727, what all would I need to complete the swap? I'm trying to stay as low budget as I can. The main reason I'm doing the swap is to avoid the annoying warm up time on those cold mornings. Any input would be appreciated.

Well since your budget is small and you just want to avoid the warm up time, just get a efi kit and be done. Fast, Accel, Megasquirt, Holley and others have kits that suit your needs and save some coin too.

Or get the heads, and FI (with wiring and comp) from a Magnum. Aren't the short blocks almost the same?

If your carb and choke is set up right, you won't have warm up problems. Heck, I ran most of my old cars without a choke and only had problems when the temps got lower than the mid 40's....

I second the above.

I have an electric choke on my 600cfm Edelbrock with an electric choke on my 440ci. I don't have the electric choke hooked up an things start-up/run fine.

I can only comment based on my experience (my other experience was with a 225/6 in a 68 Dodge Dart GT - not related).

yep.
my 71 Javelin with autolite carb and 360 works like a charm.
The choke, fast idle, work perfectly.

My 69 GTO is another story. No matter how many times I get the Quadrajet working right, another start or two later and it is off and I am on the pedal getting it warmed up
