Thinking about installing a 5 speed transmission in my 70 Charger. Just wondering if anyone has ever tried this and how much modification is required? Thinking about a 5 speed Tremec. Any recommendations on who makes a good gear box for mostly street driving?

I have a SS-700 5-speed and had to cut part of the torsen bar crossmember out of the transmission hump on my Coronet. The "fit" is not the best, the speedometer cable comes out right in the crossmember area, so it takes a tight turn. So far it is working good, if the speedometer cable came out in a different place it would better.

I used one of the Keisler kits with a Tremec TKO in my 70 Road Runner. Had to enlarge the shifter hole and pound down some of the lip in the tunnel. No change to crossmember, no problem with speedo cable. They are back in business under Silver Sport Transmissions. American Powertrain sells good setups.

My early Keisler TKO 5 required a small floor pan cut. If I had it to do again, I would look into Gear Vendors. You can get a Passon in about 4-5 years if you get on the list now.

I've done several TKO conversions. Have to use their bell housing and T/O bearing, Chevy clutch disc, mods to the floor, custom driveshaft. For 400.00 more you can do a drop in Passion 5-spd and change nothing. The wait is around 18 months, not 4-5 years. I'll never use a TKO in a Mopar again. They shift like crap too.
Looks like the new ones might have a Mopar spline input shaft so you don't have the change the disc or else the disc just is not included with their install kit.

Its a 440.

Thanks guys. I'll check out the Passion. I hadn't heard of that one before.

There is a huge build thread about the Passon 5 on Moparts under "new products. Agreed the Keisler has 2-3 high rpm shift issues, but thought it was because it is an early version. I would not take the 18 month number to Vegas.
