55 Plymouth

I just picked up a nice 55 Plymouth Belvedere 2-dr HT. It's larger than any A-body, but not new enough to be included with the B-bodies. Will I be an orphan on the discussion boards?

My older brother used to have a 1955 Plymouth Belvedere. The salesman who sold it to him said it was a special model because it had gold anodized moldings down the side of it and a supposedly bigger engine. It was a black two door hardtop.

'55 was the first year for a V-8 in a Plymouth which had a polyspheric-shaped combustion chamber with a 7.6:1 compression ratio. It was a 241 cid engine 2bbl, and produced 157 hp. Also offered was a 259.2 cid engine with a 2bbl that cranked out 157 horses. Adding a 4bbl would add 10 more horses. That could be where the bigger engine comment came from. I don't know if the anodized moldings were available, but I do know that was available in '56 when the Fury was first introduced. Another place you can get some info is at the Plymouth Owners Club at www.plymouthbulletin.com. They have advisors for each year.
