I currently have a cast iron 6 pack intake, Dec 69 date. How much weight would I save if I went with a new aluminum one? Any benefits of the cast vs alum? Thanks.

weight savings is about 50 pounds.if you go with a new aluminum manifold it will have better flow charicteristics then the old cast iron.you will prob gain a bit of hp,but not a ton.

The iron intake is heavy for sure but if I already had the iron (and I do) I wouldn't rush out to spend $300.00+ on an aluminum one just to save 50 lbs (...and I'm not). What's 50 lbs on a 3900 lb car? If you don't care about having the original I suppose you can sell your intake and end up with the aluminum one plus cash.

Alex, yep, kinda what I was thinking, it was one of those 'Damn, is it worth advertising, etc, or just run the stupid thing...' And considering I need to get rid of 3 road runner hoods, a 400, and I'm too lazy to....
Super and 67, thanks! I didn't realize it was that much weight, I had been guessing 15-20.

Actually the weight difference is about 31 LB.

but it's a really heavy 31 lbs ... when you are lifting it off the engine in the car ... let me tell you what.

I've been there more than once and you can't do it from the front either.!!

I guess I'm a sissy. I used the engine hoist on my friend's six pack when we replaced the intake gaskets.

I'm with Meep-Meep
Big deal unless I am racing.
Yup, neat to say "mine is aluminum"
BUT: If your car came w/ the cast iron, be proud of it.

I tried but my hood is in the way !!

My car came iron...383...long gone. I got a cast iron 6 pack for a 440, so...have been going back and forth on swapping to aluminum, but like I said, would have to sell the one I have...I'm always impressed with guys that have perfect cars, original or restored, but not really my thing, and I'd feel bad hot rodding resto modding whatever its now called, a real a12 or the like.

These days I use the "back rule" ... if it's going to throw out my back, it's too heavy.

Hey, it can always be worse. You could have a cast iron FE intake to deal with!
