Hi guys, 1962 Belvedere 318, 3 Speed Manual Transmission has leak coming right off bottom of transmission mount. I had speedo cable out recently to lube/put back in and replaced o-ring and it started leaking off transmission mount afterwards… BUT…there’s no apparent leak right above at speedo cable mount/clamp. What else is above/in there that could leak where it flows down inside transmission mount drips out the little holes on the side forming an incessant drop right off the very bottom of mount? I’m ready to pull the transmission mount to see what’s going on. But before I do, any insight?

You may have dripped some oil down there. Clean it,drive and recheck.
Are you saying the trans. mount caught some of the oil that poured out when I took speedo. cable out ?…and it’ll just take some time for all of it to empty? There’s a rubber block to absorb vibrations in there correct? Anything else? Just seems like it’s been dripping too long now…for just the oil that was caught in there.

Just saying it’s a possibility. I’d clean it out, petroleum products ruin mounts.
Put a drop of oil on the floor and wait a day or two then look how big the spot is.

I just took the nuts off to (possibly) drain it out quicker if that’s the issue here. Oil steadily dripping out of one of them as we speak. Observation: the stamped cutouts on each side of trans. mount were plugged with grease old dirt/too. I cleaned a few of them out…oil flowing out there too. Seems like a few more could be opened up. I sure am hoping you’re right. Should just take mount off and clean it…that would verify. If those side cutouts were closed up with dirt/grease…I could see it holding hold oil in there quite a while…I suppose. Maybe a carefully drilled hole in bottom would let it all out…much quicker.

Two things. Oring can still be an issue. You may have installed an undersized o-ring, and allowing a leak to reappear. Also the speedo cable sheaf can be leaking and doing a slow drip. The segment of the helix get spread apart and weap. is oil, trans lube or engine oil blowing by from engine.?
