Need opinion on chosing the right fan for my 62 Plymouth Belvedere to get a little more horsepower.. It is a 383 & I race the 1/8th mile track.. I now run a 4 blade steel fan with stock radiator. Any suggestions?? Cleyon

It sounds to me that you have the right fan if all you do with th car is race it, my car sees a lot of street driving these days so I went to a plasticfan that I piced up at a swap meet it has 5 blades with a ridged hard cut to pull air through the radiator and it helps keep me running cool in traffic on hot days

Remember Mopar Engineers spent tons of money researching the right combination to get their motors to cool. So with that said,do you have a fan shroud? If not, invest in one. You also might try a water pump from A/C application, smaller impeller also uses less HP.

The Mopar Viscous fan package. It can free up around or over 20HP and cool much more efficiently than a fixed fan. I also recommend a shroud.

I have a shroud and don't have a heating problem.. I'm just looking for more H.P...

You can put on one of those cheap flex fans and "hope" it don't come apart if it race only!

They won't fit our early b-bodies. The engine is too far forward and the shaft is too long. There is a Jaguar clutch that bolts in place of the Mopar one that works, though...

That's why I'm putting a '69 K-member in my '64 Polara. Moves the engine back 1 5/8".

My '62 has a factory viscous clutch fan in front of the 413,,,,

I agree with Rusty. My 63 Max Wedge had the correct four blade fixed fan with no shroud, worthless. My current 67 Hemi GTX has a correct 7 blade clutch fan and it cools great. The correct fan for the Hemi though is the four blade fixed, but does not cool very well. My seven blade is correct for the 67 440 GTX with either the towing package or A/C.

Keep in mind the original Max Wedge fan was not designed for street driving. Also contrary to all the Max Wedge fan shrouds you see listed for sale, the Max Wedge cars never got one.

My 62 polara 500 also has factory viscous in front of 361.
