I have a 1963 330 in my shop with a crack in the firewall and when you push the clutch in it makes the mastercylinder move about a 1/4 inch. Has anybody delt with this or have any ideas. Is this a common problem? I was thinking about a plate from the inside with bolts.

I'd use 1/8" plate and weld it in....but bolts would be better than what you have now.

I would weld it but the firewall looks so good I would hate to have the customer redo the paint.

If the any of the braces from the firewall to the dash are missing (common issue w/ auto to manual swap) the symptoms that you describe, cracking and flexing, is exactly what you end up with.
