63' Polara 500 which mirror??

No chance to take a look of the mirrors. Does anyone have a pic of it and i need also the exact position on the driver side. Here is mine. I think the mirror is not the right and the position isn't too. What do you think?

you need a twin post mirror. I'll bet if you took that mirror off you will find the original mounting holes still there. I don't have any close ups but this may give you a reference point. My 64 Belvedere

On a 62 Polara, the mirror mounts ont he upper beltline molding line. In fact there is a diecast mount portion that splices into the upper ss trim, which the mirror mounts onto.
Position is forward of the ventwing vertical channel for door glass.

Here are some pictures of cars and they all seem to be in the area as the 64 Belvedere in the above picture.

Here are copies of the factory templates, the scale seems to be off in the one so I made one off my own car and it seems to hold with the original.

You're too slow,beat you to it !!

My 63 is unmolested and its mirror is built into the chrome on the side moulding.

Very similiar, mine is incorpriated into the top piece of the two dual trim pieces that run along the car.

Better picture, don't know what determined two different locations.

Hi there V8Manu! Sorry I'm a bit late to this thread but if you still need some info I should be able to provide you with the necessary. Unless convertibles are different to hardtops...?

Our 63 Polara 500 has the original mirror in the original position, I just dont have a very clear pic to hand to show you right now.

This should give an idea of the position tho

The car is in my brother's garage and he's away in the States untill the 20th (at the Gatornationals, the lucky so and so!) but I could get more info when he returns if you like.

Just let me know and I'll get a more detailed pic or two :icon_winkle:

Hi there Manu

Managed to get some pics last nite of our mirror. Didnt realise how bad the chrome is till I looked at these pics! :icon_eek:

Or the paint, and trim etc etc :icon_rolleyes:

Anyway, as far as I know this is the original mirror in the original position, but anyone knows otherwise, feel free to correct me!

I dont know whether the convertible 500 has the same trim tho (either side of the coloured stripe)?

I couldnt open the door to show the inside as there isnt currently enough room in the garage :icon_rolleyes: but I do remember seeing (& feeling!) the ends of the 2x screws poke through the sheet metal of the door, as they are just sheet metal screws screwed into the sheet metal of the door! Not ideal when you want to clean around the door shuts. Ouch.

Just looking at the pics though, the screws go thru the stripe area of the door, just below the upper piece of trim. I'm not sure how the base of the mirror sits 1/2 on the trim and 1/2 on the stripe without sitting crooked, so I'll look into that and try and provide more info...

Pics - hope they help:

In 40+ years of working on and owning early b-bodies! I haven't ever seen the two post mirror mounted on the upper trim molding. All I've seen was mounted above it! I think some one added it early on. The remotes are mounted forward a little before the vent and window channel. The two post was in the same area!
