Hello, this is my first post, so apologies in advance if this is not cool to post here. I am trying to restore the center console of a '63 Polara, and the center console is wrapped in a sort of thick ribbed foil trim material. Mine is pretty scratched and worn, no amount of Brasso on a toothbrush will bring it back. Is there any chance this material is still being produced? Finding a complete replacement console has proven very difficult, they seem pretty hard to find, but mine is in good really shape except for the ribbed trim. I'm sorry I don't know the name for this stuff. Here's a pic of the console, it is material that wraps the top lid and front (where the ashtray is) Thank you.

It is alumina sheet that I suspect was rolled at the factory (to press the grooves into it),rather than stamped
Then it was anodised .The anodising means it is hard but also cannot be buffed.

I was thinking of rolling a sheet to repair mine also ....but haven't pursued that option yet.
It's 3 pieces front ashtray,lid,rear ashtray.The sheet wouldn't have to be too wide (4")
Maybe a Jenny type roller?
Good luck

Thanks for your fast reply. I was hoping this was a vendor-supplied material and therefore maybe available from a 3rd party source. Heck if they used this in a Mustang you could probably buy it at Wal-Mart. But yeah if it is anodized then options are limited. I'd be worried that de-anodizing the usual way, with sodium hydroxide (drano/ez-off) would dissolve it altogether. Finding an NOS console is basically impossible, seems a DIY approach is the only way to recreate the correct material.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I ran across one this week where the owner had flipped the sheets over and rebent them in the opposite direction. The surface quality was perfect, but his bends were a little sloppy and didn't fit great around the front curved edge or the lid. Still was interesting.

Looks like the same one used in my '62 Polara 500
