Hey guys. I'm building a 64 dodge max wedge 4 speed. Plan is to build it as it would have been raced in super stock classes in 64 & 65. What letters would have been used to designate the class. I believe it would have been S/S. Can anyone clarify for me?

I believe that you are correct. S/S that year was a class and not a series of classes. The Ford guys always brag about winning Super Stock at the 1964 Nationals, as if it was a division. They get testy when they are reminded that it was only a class and the only Dodge was Dave Strickler , and he was quickest in the class by 1/4 of a second. If he had only not red lighted during eleminations.

:iamwithstupid: here's a few examples not sure how good you can see the lettering etc.

S/S was for stick shift cars and S/SA was for the automatics, and of course we are talking about the year 1964.

thanks guys. I know they changed so many things year by year... was it 65 that they started to A class super stock. b class super stock etc.. I assume the max wedge cars would have gone to b super stock once the hemi's hit the strip. so in 65.. would A class super stock be SS/A.. then SS/B.. I will probably go with S/S seeing as how the car is a 64. Great pictures by the way. Love those old drag pics! Thanks

That's exactly how I remember it: S/S was Super Stock (stick shift cars) and S/SA was Super Stock Automatic. I thought it carried over into 1965 but could be wrong--not sure when they started with SS/A and SS/B, etc.
