Just joined, looks like a great place to get information and meet some new Mopar fans. I have a 1964 Dodge Polara 500. It's an off white with black interior. Interior is original and the body was painted once due to fadeing and dent in fender, no rust issues. This was a California car but previous owner moved to Arizona and spent much of it's life there. It is an Auto in the floor/console. My brother and I have built a 440 and put in it. Bored 30 over with 270 comp cam, high horse power pistons, can't remember what they were called. everything brand new in engine. Had an Eldebrock carb but wouldn't idle in gear, borrowed my brothers Holley and idles and runs good now. Can't decide which carb to buy, but I do want a Holley, but not sure whither to get a 750 or 770 cfm. I looked at Jeggs for best price. Looking at 80508s about $309 or 80770 for about $399. Not sure which one I need. Any suggestions.

Thanks,
baj

Welcome aboard dude. Give us some specs for The engine. There are a lot of different variables when it comes to carbs. What is the intended use? Not much difference from 750 to 770 CFM. Are you looking for a vacuum secondary or mechanical? Another thing to look at is your torque converter. The converter, cam, and headers or manifolds should work together for best performance. Another variable is your intake. Is it a dual plane or single plane. Singles can affect bottom end torque but are better at high RPM. The general feeling is that most typical mild street engines are 80-90% efficent. The formula for determining carb size is:

•carb size = Displacement X Max RPM X Volumetric Efficiency / 3456

Getting the carb tuned properly will be key no matter what you get. Do some research before you buy, so that you can get what fits the intended purpose.

We need Pictures!!!!

welcome to FBBO, either are a good choice for a Holley 4bbl Carburetor, either a 750cfm Double Pumper or the 770cfm like the "Street Avenger" w/dual feed, Vac. secondaries, w/electric choke, would be fine, depends on whether you want, prefer or need a vacuum secondary carb for use with a automatic transmission or mechanical secondaries that work well with a manual transmission, but you could use either, depending or your needs & engine combo, torque converter, camshaft etc... there's so many variables, you should start a new thread, in the appropriate forum section & give us your engine specs, so we can give you an educated answer/opinion... you will get many different opinions here, there are those who swore by the Edelbrock/Weber Performer Carb's {Carter AVS or AFB Copies} & some who will swore by the Holley Carb's, I personally prefer Holley's especially for performance or racing application myself... Edelbrock or Carters more for stock type or restoration applications... my $0.02 cents
