Just a heads up for those of you looking for the plastic side molding clips for your 64 polara Ed from the Mopar Shop in Madera, CA has them available. $220.00 + a small shipping charge.

They have a website or you can call them. Ed is a very knowledgeable Mopar guy.

Good luck

I’m curious to know if anyone else with a 64 Polara has bought these and what their opinion of them are?

Well, i bought a set and when they arrive next week I will compare them to the many originals I have saved.

I looked this up and the set does in fact contain clips for the upper and lower trim.

Joe Suchy sells the set for around $150, but I'm not sure if that includes both upper and lower trim clips.

Joe was my first call and he told me that he hasn't been able to get those clips for years now. Company that was making them closed up shop. I'm not sure where the Mopar Shop is getting them from - my guess somewhere in California but it only took them just a few days before they shipped them to me.

Or you can do the same thing for about $16.00 and a little work.

I didn't have any foam around my original clips either. But my car was repainted at least once by a previous owner so if there was foam there from the factory it was likely lost during the first re-paint.

I think I'd have concerns about that method Mr. Centerline....either the metal spring clip or the metal support/backing plate could rust and bleed down over the paint. Granted, these cars today aren't left out in the rain or put through car washes like when they were new, but here in Maryland we have humidity most of the year so things rust here even on sunny days.

I'm going to go with the plastic clips.....

I'm going to go with the plastic clips.....

Right!?! It's pretty crude the way he did it. $220 is not going to be fun to shell out, but it will be done right. The trim will be secure, it will be water tight....

You can call it crude if you like, but I can remove and re-install my side trim in about 5 minutes to clean behind it and I don't have to replace $200+ worth of plastic every time I do it.

I like your ingenious solution and if I were to do it I would maybe change the steel sheet metal to 20-22 ga. brass. Super easy to drill through and no corrosion. Hopefully once mine is on it will never have to come off in my lifetime.

Thanks for great idea thinking outside the box.

I used these on my 64 Polara. Got the larger ones for the bigger trim and these for the smaller. They work great and are cheap. 25 of the small ones are like $11. I just pushed them in from the outside how ever far I could get them and then grabbed them from the inside with pliers and gave each one a little tug. They cinch up great and hold tight.

I bought the plastic clips ( can't remember from where to be honest) and they flat out suck. The width is incorrect and will not hold the trim very well at. I want to cry when i look at that little bag full of useless **** ball clips for $220 bucks. Do yourself a favor and buy the trim to fit clips with 10-24 threads off of ebay or amazon. Small ones (1/2") are #19626 and larger ones are Auveco #19378

Not to be rude, but if you couldn’t get them to work, you didn’t install them properly. They literally turn into the trim and wedge in tight to the trim. The ends are tapered so they get tighter as they’re turned in. I actually had some factory connectors for one piece and put it on with those, and the ones installed with the plastic clips are way tighter. That’s one reason I finished the install off with the pliers; the tabs were tight in the holes.

The ones you pictured in post #17 are not the factory replacement clips that i was referring to. I have no idea what there from but it's not a 64' Polara. I'm glad they worked out.
