My 727 pushbutton trans pan is leaking. The cork gasket won't seal.I'm going to try two rubber gaskets next and I'm thinking about old school permatex on the bolt threads.I'm going to Sears tonight to get a micro inch lb.torque wrench to set the bolts at 130 inch lbs.Anybody have any tips .I hope the third try will work. Thanks

It may not be the pan gasket that's leaking. If the shifter or dipstick tube seal leaks, it looks like it's coming from the pan. I would try replacing those first. Old school permatex will not hold. It disolves in oils. Since the threads don't protrude into an area with fluid, sealing them won't help. There are newer style permatex sealers that you can use on the gasket that are more resistant to oils.

Ive seen what furyus is speaking of happen but if it is the gasket, I used the old time Permetex on both sides of the "cork" gasket and it never leaked on me again, I personally don't care for the rubber gaskets compared to the cork..

Thanks to everyone-I first saw the leak strart below the trans. tube but did not feel or see any fluid. My seal was brand new as is the CRT trans and billet pan.Is there a way to seal the trans tube.I just pushed in the rubber seal and shoved the tube into it.

You need to clean everything real good, then run it on the lift or jackstands and run through the gears and pinpoint the leak.Could be the pan or one of the shift cables. The right diagnosis will save you time, money and fustration.
