Is there a way to tell by the numbers on the block what car it came from? Also can a push button cable shift trans be used for a floor shift car? I've heard you can buy kits ti adapt to late model 727's but, would like to know about the others as well. I found a 65 motor and trans complete from carb to trans which he says was from a cable shift console car. He say it has a stromberg carb on it. Did they come with those? The motor has been sitting for 5 years in a barn and is locked up. He's asking 500.00. Is this a good buy? I'm swapping my 318 out of my 65 Satellite for a BB. That's why all the qustions. Any info wouls be great. Mike

Unless you just want the 65 motor and trans for your 65 car, I would think $500 for a locked up motor and bad trans (cause lets face it, it's gonna have to be rebuilt) is to much.

No, there isn't any way I know of to tell what car it came out of originally. All the 65 auto transmissions were cable shift. So if you had the correct 65 floor shifter setup, you could use it with a trans from a "pushbutton" car.

Adapt what to a late 727? The car? Part of the trans?

Doesn't matter if it has a Stromberg on it, cause you're not gonna use it anyway. Won't use the intake either. But no, I don't know if it came with a berg.....not unless it's a 2V

What I meant was, being able to use a non cable shift 727 with a cable shift shifter. I heard jegs or shumacher carry a part that let's you do this. Thanks for your input. I thought the guy was high as well.

Aaah....Couldn't tell ya. I'd bet there would be some way to do it, even if it meant using the old handle on a new shifter.
