'65 727 question

I just picked up a '65 727 trans that has been rebuilt. I want to put it in my '64 Belvedere wagon that has a push button 727. Both trans are big block 727s. The reason for this is the '65 has a slip yoke style tailshaft and the 64 has the goofy bolt on style. I was told that a '65 727 will work with a push button, but I will have to swap my push button valve body into the '65 trans. Can anyone confirm this or give me other instruction on what needs done?

The "rooster comb" is different for the 65 VS 62-64 models.

I just looked at a 65 727 on ebay because I was curious too. Looks like the park lock housing is the same. Cable coming out the drivers side from the housing. The tailshaft housing looks to be the new style with the lock ring access plate in the rear tranny mount boss.
 
65 valve bodies are different from the push buttons. i'd change out the valve bodies.
 
The cable at the front on a pre-65 is gears only whereas the 65 cable travels further into park. With these valve bodies being different, how would the 65 transmission be placed in park using a 65 valve body on a pre-65 pushbutton console? I can't envision how the park lever would work with the gear cable since there's no use for the separate park cable? If you use a pre-65 valve body, there's no way to put it into park.
I decided to stay with a pre-65 727 for my 413 because of this reason.

I've been running 65 transmissions in my race cars since the late 80s. They definatly use 2 cables, 1 prk, 1 shift. The rooster combs, nuetral safety switch, and cable connections are different from 64 and earlier. Though I've never had a 65 car my bet is the shifter moves the rooster comb an extra notch whIle moving the park cable.

there's a longer travel on the '65 rooster comb and the part of the valve body that holds the shuttle valves is different to allow for the travel. a '64 console shifter valve body is like the '65. push button valve bodies won't work in a '65 column or console shifter.

mrploww, if you decide to change the '65 valve body out i might be interested in buying it.

Doug I like the looks of your anchor points on the tranny to the tranny mount, I am curious about this you must be running her hard.

I've been told NOT to use the trans crossmember,I still don't have limiters. What say ye!:icon_sunny:
 
If it runs a plate it should have limiters. Do the limiters cause any issues mounted on the cross member? Not that I've seen. Been that way for 3 years and 300 passes. I wasn't sure it wouldn't break the case when I built it, it hasn't. Out of the way. My entire trans assembly comes out as one piece, cross member, shield, and cooler lines.
