I am looking for the stock length 8 3/4 rearend for a 65' Coronet. I am having trouble getting my wheels on and off. I have a 489 8 3/4 w/3" wheel studs and trying to take off put on tires are a hugh pain in the A$$. They rub and get jammed in the wheel wells. To get the 29x12.50x15 Sportsman pros off I had to remove all the air and still had to just rip them out of the wheel well. I thought is was just that the tires were big not really the case cuz I put 15x6.5 steel rims on it to move it around and still had trouble getting them on.

I know the 489 8 3/4 didn't come on the car in 65 but don't know what car it came from so I was wondering on the stock length.

Don't obcess over the 489 case. That is simply the center section and will work in ANY 8.75 housing. Has nothing to do with the width. What you need to do is measure your housing flange to flange (and ya might as well measure it from spring perch to perch)

THAT is what you need to pay attention to.....the width of the housing and matching axles

Was just saying that it might not be the stock rearend. Even if I measure it, that is not going to tell me the length of the stock width. Was hoping someone somewhere had a listing/reference of the stock width so I can see if the rear that is in the car is stock width.

Was thinking that the people that had the car before me installed the whole rearend and it didn't come from a B body and is wider and that is why I am having problems with the rim/tire fitment.

Right now I don't have the car available to measure the rear but was hoping to get the info so when the car gets back to my garage I will have something to compare.

I got this off a website I have in my http://www.usaimports.co.uk/Mopar_Tech_Pages/mopar_rear_ends.htm

"The first measurement is the center to center spring pad width of the housing, the second is the total axle width flange to flange.

67 - 72 A body 43.02" 55.60"
62 - 70 B body 44.00" 59.20"
71 - 74 B body 47.30" 62.00"
71 - 74 B body Station Wagon 47.3" 63.4"

Hope this helps!

The '62 - '64 Mopar B body cars had tapered axles and the flange to flange length was
1" wider than the '65 - '70 B body cars. I put a complete '70 Road Runner rear end in my '64 Belvedere in order to get slightly more tire clearance at the fenders.
