what have people used in their a/c conversions and did you have to fabricate a lot of it. this is a 65 coronet that originally had air and a bb.thanks.
 
I recommend rebuilding the factory stuff. Been working on rebuilding a couple early B Body factory A/C systems myself. The switches ( most of the time are broken) can be rebuilt. I had the switches rebuilt and they are better than factory and will last 100 years. If you want to use a modern compressor that can be done with changing you hose ends, to the wands that fit. I have extra parts if you missing something.

There are a few good companies out there that will help you get the answers you need. Review very carefully the classic conversion kits, and be aware that modern refrigerant will need new hoses for your car....and a few valves too. You'll be out about $1500 no matter that direction you choose and that's if you do it yourself.
 
The term "ice cold AC" originated with the Mopar RV-2 system.

Sure, a "sanden" compressor might be a little more efficient....
OEM brackets for sanden's were used in the 1980's on small blocks.
Big blocks will need a specialty part. I've seen them.

You can get away with OEM hoses with R134a (Mine have been going for over 9 years that way).

Not sure about 65 and older switches, but 66-70 push button "wafer" switches can be rehabbed at home if you're patient and careful.
 
I have installed Vintage Air in my 1964 Polara, basically the same car as your '65 Coronet. I have posted a lot of pictures and descriptions of what I did on '62-'65 forum. Also, member Scott Engelhart was a big help. His brother-in-law is tech advisor for Vintage Air.
 
con, all i have is the box that goes under the dash. the heater core has been froze and busted.the condenser tube going out of the firewall is twisted. dont know if they can be repaired reasonably.will have to buy everything else. dave,i will look at your install i'm sure i'm not that handy. thank you all for your help.
 
I think if you look at the Vintage air website, you can look at the installation instructions. It is not a complicated installation just time consuming. Is your car a power steering car? If not you can mount the compressor where the power steering pump would be mounted, that makes a clean installation. I wish I would have mapped out the lines a little better, but that is an easy modification. Like Dave said, my brother in law is a tech for Vintage air. He is a great help. I would gladly help if you would like to talk or if you would like pictures. Mark would be a great help with the part numbers we used on my install.
I am very happy with my air kit. Very cool in the summer and the heat works very well. We try to make our car an 8 month car so we need the heat too.

Scott, i've been looking at their site and talked with a gentleman briefly.I am gonna wait til after the holidays and get with Mark. looks like the whole system will end up costing between $1600 to $2000 from them .thanks again.
