65 Coronet shifter for 727 Auto

Hey guys

I am getting my 65 Hardtop ready for registration down here in Australia, and to do so, I need the shifter to support the reverse light and neutral lockout function, and also the PRND21 indicator. It has a B&M megashifter in it, which does not have any of these functions working, and I have none of the bits it came with (I believe they do have these functions when you buy them). Also, it no longer has the factory shifter slot and indicator panel present (although has the 'rest' of the console still there)....basically the builder just put the shifter in so it would shift and that's it.

So....my question is, has anyone done the ratchet shifter instal before, and made it look reasonably stock, rather than like a race car look where none of that matters? I am interested in how others have done it, before I go making up a whole lot of custom stuff.

Also interested in hearing from anyone who may have a standard Coronet 500 hardtop shifter assembly and bezel that I could buy to return it to more of a stock look.

Chances are the car has a later transmission. If that's the case, using the original shifter will be out of luck. unless you can find a conversion somewhere. Some have had good luck with imperial services and some who haven't. A lot of aftermarket shifters come with Neutral safety and reverse light options. I'm going to use a B&M unimatic for mine but I'm going to cut down the handle and weld on a factory Plymouth handle (Same as your 65 Coronet shifter) on it do it will look more stock. That's a project for spring.
