Hey there

I've been mulling this over for quite some time, should I turn my 1965 Coronet 500 Convertible into a weekend drag car. Just stock class type stuff with no major alterations to the chassis or anything. What do you think. I think it would make an interesting and rarely seen project. I have an extra 440 that just aches to go fast.

Just make sure you read up on the cage requirements for racing a rag top... it would be cool though!

Thats the only thing that is kinda holding me back, what if I want to cruise the steets. I don't know how it would look with the top down and a cage poking out the top. Only one way to find out. What I really really want to do is an A/FX the dang thing. Straight front axel and all!!! Dreams....................

13.99 or faster for verts so if you keep it slower then that you are good.

I don't think it would look good with the top down. JMO

Yeah, I'm thinking the top down would look bad with a cage also.

Ya'll sold me! Now I have to find a post car to build to race. Anyone have a 65ish 2 door post car that needs a new home? Always liked them dang ole sedans. I kinda always wanted a 67 gtx, though. Let me know if anyone out there can help a MoPar Man out?

Hey AlaskaMoparMan where do you plan on racing it at Polar Raceway in Palmer? are they still in business? I use to run there in 83-84 I think it was. Haven't been up that far north in a long time, I use to have family up there. stationed at Elmondorf AFB & FT. Richardson AB. Good luck with your search, the converts with cages look ok, but don't cut up a clean convert if you can help it. If it's a ruster it dose not realy matter. The post cars won't twist anywere near as bad as the converts either.

Don't DO that...!!!

It dosen't make much sense to me to own a convertible, (A 65 coronet 500 no less), and just use it as a drag car on the weekend......???? I don't think they will allow you to race with the top down.... LOL. Although I suppose there is a short "top down" season for a convertible in Alaska.

Applying that much power will likely cause body damage eventually. One day the doors wont close.:eek:ops:

Go look for a sedan or hardtop....

I've been thinking about drag racing convertibles too. What about a REMOVABLE roll bar?

- slower than 8.50 sec in 1/4 mile swing-out side bar permitted (removable I think)
- with stock floorboard/firewall (wheel tubs allowed) you can attach the roll bar top/bottom with 6"x6" 1/8" steel plate & bolts top/bottom of floorboard
- you can leave out the boot well (no package tray) for rear brace access
- its a lot easier to unbolt & lift up a roll bar on a convertible vs. a hardtop

Am I missing something here? I have two nitrous convertibles that I would love to make track legal & still be able to remove the bars!
