Going to remove the fuel tank from the 65 Belvedere II tomorrow, and would like to know if I need to separate the filler neck from the tank at the grommet before I drop it , or will the filler neck come out with the tank as a whole unit. Is there anything Unique about 65 tank removal? appreciate any and all advice. Thanks in advance. Thunder

Remove the screws from the filler neck bracket and drop the tank and neck as one unit.

Does the '65 have one or two straps?
Looks like they only have one.

When the strap bolt is loose, with a jack under the tank, let the tank down about an inch or two. Then lift up on the tank by hand, swing the bolt end of the strap towards the drivers side and the strap will drop out of the frame. Then you can let the tank rest back on your jack. The tank will only drop down so far with the strap still hooked into the frame.

With the strap removed, you can let the tank down and towards the rear axel to let the filler neck pass through the opening.

You're certainly welcome Thunder!

I had to get lots of height/clearance to wiggle mine out. The neck was getting hung up on the tunnel, but it came out without pulling the neck from the tank.

GREAT ADVICE from our fellow members, (Thank You Thank You)!! Taking out this tank was like falling off a log. This car continues to amaze me . This is the original 52 year old tank and sender! Other than upgrading to 3/8 all the way through, none of it would need replacement except for the tank neck grommet. Inside the tank is spanky clean. A lot to be said for California Cars!! Thunder

That's quite amazing!

You saw the inside of mine in my thread! And mine was born and raised in California. Last tagged in Oregon.

The '62 filler tube is different than the '65. The bracket is different and looks like it has a rib on the outside. Look how bad mine is rusted, ordered a new one.

Yes I remember! It looked like someone poured Roofing Tar into it! I was expecting same thing! I consider myself very fortunate. All I need is a grommet, and a 3/8 sending unit.
Nothing on this car Has given me fits.... Yet!! so now I am putting things back together, and Anything can Happen!!
