I believe that in '65, the inside of the 1/4 panels were undercoated and then sprayed with a gray/white speckle paint. How rough was the undercoating/soundproofing? What about the wheel wells and the area between the taillights? I am trying to make mine look stock, but not necessarily restored.

You are correct. On my '65, the 1/4's had the undercoating, which was not "dripping thick" but had a build up, then splatter paint. The trunk floor, and rear body panel were covered. The trunk hinge braces are coated about half way up from wheel house and the diagonal brace behind seat also is coated.

Where can the gray/white "speckle" paint be purchased?

Trunk Paint

Here are several shots of an untouched 65 Belvedere II convertible trunk. As you can see, this stuff is fairly random - hope this helps.

Fantastic pics. Thank you. Looks like it was applied over gray primer or bare metal except where the body color oversprayed? Now I just need to find out where I can buy some.

`65 Trunk Interior Finish

If you have access to a spray gun, use Zolatone (search for a distributor on the web). It is a dead-on recreation of the original stuff. A little bit tricky to shoot - lot of overspray that is hard to remove - but it produces a finish IDENTICAL to what came from the factory. I just sprayed the trunk of my `65 Coronet and it came out fantastic. I've used some of the rattlecan stuff sold by Eastwood and the auto parts places and junk. Low cost, but you get what you pay for; plus they need to be clearcoated. I got my paint from TCPGlobal (www.tcpglobal.com). Not cheap - about $50/qt - but well worth it. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Good luck!
